Book Review: NOVEMBER

What fun! I wasn’t even looking to get book reviews for the last two months of the year and my kids stepped up and asked if they could do it! My 14 year old helped my 8 year old with this review. Let’s see what they have to say…

ANNE ARRIVES

My brothers, Daddy, and Mama live with me on our farm. We own 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 kitten, 1 gerbil, 1 hermit crab, 18 hens and 1 rooster. My daddy works with Grandpa, farming corn and beans. We have a garden, just having finished this year. Me and my brothers like to play games together in the barn, our treehouse, and the dirt piles. We are homeschooled.

First of all, Marilla is going to get a boy helper, so Matthew went out to get him from the train station. But, to his surprise, it was a girl. She had red braids, under her brown sailor’s hat, freckles, and a carpet bag which she kept her clothes in. A skinny, medium-in-height girl, she talked all the time on the ride to Green Gables. When she got there, Marilla was surprised that it was a girl, not a boy. “Why is it a girl, Matthew?” Anne answered, “Because the boy that takes care of the orphans, said that you would like a girl better than a boy.” A couple of days later,Mrs. Lynde came over, who exclaimed, “She’s as skinny as a carrot and has hair as red too!” Anne shouted in response, “Why, don’t say I’m as skinny as a carrot!” Marilla gasped, and said, “Why Anne, you go straightly up to your room!” So, she did. On her bed, she pouted, thinking that Mrs. Lynde shouldn’t have said those things. Marilla came upstairs. “Do you want to apologize or stay up in your room?” “Stay locked in my room,” Anne sobbed. Matthew came. “Why don’t you apologize?” “I’ll do anything for you, Matthew,” Anne answered. So, the next day, Anne was ready to apologize to Mrs. Lynde. The two went over to Mrs. Lynde’s house. Mrs. Lynde opened the door. “What are you doing back here?” she wondered. Marilla said, “Anne is ready to apologize, now.” Then, Anne got down on her knees, asking for forgiveness from Mrs. Lynde. Mrs. Lynde responded “yes.” Anne and Marilla went home to Green Gables.

Q&A TIME

A: Matthew Cuthbert.

Q: Why?

A: He’s funny and soft & loving toward Anne.

Q. What’s your favorite part of the book?

A: Anne talks a lot.

Q: Why?

A: Because it’s showing us that you can still be somewhat friendly to strangers.

Q: Where did Anne come from?

A: From the Orphanage.

Q: What is Anne’s behavior towards Matthew at the train station?

A: She wasn’t shy, but she was friendly and respectful.

Q: Why do you think Anne talks so much?

A: Maybe it’s her talent.

Q: Why do you think Matthew wants to keep Anne, instead of a boy?

A: Because she’s nice and she could bring a character to Green Gables.

Q: Why did the Cuthbert siblings want a boy, in the first place?

A: So he could help Matthew in his work, as he was getting older.

Q: Why does Mrs. Lynde talk her ideas right out?

A: She thinks she can say whatever she wants and people will be alright with it.

Q: Would you like to suggest any books like this one to others?

A: I own 1 through 4 of this particular adaption series and liked the original novel, Anne of Green Gables, by L. M. Montgomery, via audiobook.

Thank you very much! As my friends know, Anne is my very favorite. So this adaptation has been such a treat to collect for my 8 year old each Christmas! Have you checked out this book series? And for the older readers, the original Anne series is superb… quite a delight too anyone, all ages.

Welcome to
Honey and the Hen!

Currently I don’t have any bees (or honey). We do have meat chickens now – yay!
And we also recently purchased 20 laying pullets. I live with my Sweet Husband and 3 kids in Central Illinois. I love homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. We are thankful to be saved by grace in Jesus and seek to follow Him and His Word. I am originally from Tennessee and one of six children, using much of my upbringing in what I do and love now. I enjoy learning, growing, and keeping my home with enthusiasm as unto the Lord. We garden and hope to raise more of our own food as we can. Thanks for stopping by!
