Yay! It is time for our monthly book review. Isn’t this fun? So many titles out there. This months’ review is by a dear friend of mine, originally from central IL. We met almost 20 years ago…. my, how time flies. Let’s meet Shanna now!
My name is Shanna. I am married to my amazing husband, Andy. I have two stepchildren, Seth and Kendall. Andy and I live in Popular Bluff, Missouri on a 10 acre Homestead. We have only lived here about 18 months, but absolutely love it, as we have begun a small garden and orchard. We have chickens, two goats, one turkey, one guinea, two cats and one dog. All have names but that gets lengthy lol.
I’d like to share my thoughts on why I so enjoyed the book, “Every Thought Captive,” by Kyle Idleman. I have read several books by Kyle and this by far is one of my favorites. Kyle does a great job taking a complex topic and breaking it down so the average reader can understand but also be challenged in how their own thoughts are affecting their daily lives.
On the inside, cover of of Kyle‘s book he states:
“What you think creates your attitudes, governs your emotions, determines your behavior, shapes your relationships, and ultimately defines your life. Armed with wisdom from God’s Word and the latest information about brain health, you can take control over your thoughts and embrace a full flourishing life.”
I am discovering how true the above statement is in my own life. God tells us in 2 Corinthians 10:5, “we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Kyle discusses getting stuck in a pattern of thinking that is neither healthy or being obedient to Christ. Science calls it a neural pathway, but thankfully, we can get unstuck with God’s Word and His Truth.

I highly recommend this book because I think we all get stuck in unhealthy patterns of thinking as we are sucked in to social media, social, norms, etc., and we have to replace these unhealthy patterns of thinking with God’s promises and His Truth.
Thanks so much for this review, Shanna! I love hearing peoples’ thoughts and points of view. We have covered many different genres of books within this little ‘book review’ corner.
