DIY Garden Journal

DIY Garden Journal

This is a quick and easy project post! As it is garden season, I’ve been using my homemade garden journal almost weekly! I made it early in our marriage to record what we planted and when as well as each plants’ location. As plants have died, I have had to cross them off so I keep an accurate record.

All you need is a composition notebook and a glue stick (or some other form of adhesive). I enjoyed cutting some lovely flower photos out of magazine to cover the front of my journal. Mod Podge works well to make the cover durable. Now, just add the label or plant marker from each perennial (plants that come back on their own each year) you plant, note where you planted it, and finally the date you planted it! I often put the year at the top of a new section to find each years’ plants easier.

You can put annuals (plants that only live one year/season)in also! But some years this may take up a lot of room! *wink*

What are you adding to your garden journal in 2025??

Hi, I use a 3 ring binder for my garden journal. I start a new journal section each planting season with notes on what grew well and which varieties to skip next year.

Very nice! Yes- this one I made doesn’t include the actual veggies I plant. That’s a separate spot. Haha! But it’s been very helpful! Thx for your idea!!

If I were to have a gardening journal, I’m sure it would be a spreadsheet, if I know myself well at all. 😂 So far (with the TINY AMOUNT we have planted), I have just been keeping the seed packets in a designated spot so I can reference zones, light, water needs, etc. 🙂

Welcome to
Honey and the Hen!

Currently I don’t have any bees (or honey). We do have meat chickens now – yay!
And we also recently purchased 20 laying pullets. I live with my Sweet Husband and 3 kids in Central Illinois. I love homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. We are thankful to be saved by grace in Jesus and seek to follow Him and His Word. I am originally from Tennessee and one of six children, using much of my upbringing in what I do and love now. I enjoy learning, growing, and keeping my home with enthusiasm as unto the Lord. We garden and hope to raise more of our own food as we can. Thanks for stopping by!
