We really enjoy giving baked gifts to neighbors and others around this time of year. Alongside our regular baking, we are making a few extras to gift. This post will include baking we’ve done throughout the holidays. Want to see what the kids and I are getting into?
Cinnamon Wreath (above)
Don’t let the photo fool you- this wreath was about one foot across! I used my good ole freshly milled whole wheat loaf recipe and added melted butter mixed with cinnamon and brown sugar (it was a mess.. wetter than I’d expected!). I flattened the bread out, added the filling, rolled the dough back up, cut it in half lengthwise, twisted it into a wreath, and let it second-rise before baking. I used OJ with powdered sugar and a slab of butter for the icing.

Sourdough Gingerbread Muffins
These turned out cute and yummy too! I found this recipe and wanted to try them- a very seasonal taste! Gifted some and kept some.

Cinnamon Swirl Loaves
For these gift loaves, I just made a regular white bread dough using unbleached flour and added a mixture of cinnamon and sugar over the dough after spreading it with butter. They turned out pretty and we enjoyed giving them to friends!

Spiced Granola
Using my regular granola recipe, I added nutmeg and ginger to make this a bit more seasonal. After baking, I added dried cranberries (the kids’ favorite). This goodie we will keep and eat here with our raw milk yogurt.

Freshly Milled Sourdough
This loaf I was able to gift and we ate the rolls. I used my standard freshly milled flour recipe for wheat bread, but instead of adding only yeast, I did a minimal amount of yeast and then added active sourdough starter as well. The loaf didn’t rise as much as I’d have liked but I should’ve let it rise longer.

Gluten Free Peanut Butter Cookies
My ten year old has become ‘famous’ for these cookies. He baked a batch for us this week. None of us are GF, but I mention the name here because they’re so simple and so yummy! We always have the ingredients onhand.

Braided Loaves
My oldest son made this batch of regular yeast bread dough. I split it into thirds and let each of my kiddos braid a loaf for a neighbor. We plan to do two more batches of these!
