TODAY- November Edition

This past weekend our family was supposed to go to southern Missouri and St. Louis to visit extended family. Unfortunately, on the way down our seven year old got sick. So, we made it back home and she recovered. However, we had days at home that were supposed to originally be out of town. What did we do?

My daughter and I got some gifts wrapped. I found some good bargains on wrapping paper etc earlier in the week at Hobby Lobby. Their paper is excellent quality.

That morning, I shopped our basement pantry and brought up tomato sauce, broth, green beans, potatoes, squash, and apple butter. I put a vegetable soup in the slow cooker for supper and some au gratin potatoes and squash in the small slow cooker to go with pork meatballs for lunch.

What else to do on a strange day at home? When you’re not sure what’s next, make bread. My daughter and I made whole wheat rolls. She enjoyed helping me form them. By this point, she was 100% better.

After the kiddos had some show time, we played games, I washed dishes, and then we decided to craft some! Ornaments to gift is such a fun craft to make- generally I am not one to craft with the kids. *wink* But we had fun with this project. We each chose a different style to make (more on handmade ornaments in a later post!).

I did a bit of sewing in the afternoon, but you’ve already seen that (embellished gloves)! We enjoyed a biscuit bread with our soup for supper, topped with butter or apple butter. Delish! What a way to end a simple day.

On to December! Blessings!

How nice that you had homemade food already ready for you at home, even though you hadn’t been shopping! Glad she got better quickly!

Welcome to
Honey and the Hen!

Currently I don’t have any bees (or honey). We do have meat chickens now – yay!
And we also recently purchased 20 laying pullets. I live with my Sweet Husband and 3 kids in Central Illinois. I love homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. We are thankful to be saved by grace in Jesus and seek to follow Him and His Word. I am originally from Tennessee and one of six children, using much of my upbringing in what I do and love now. I enjoy learning, growing, and keeping my home with enthusiasm as unto the Lord. We garden and hope to raise more of our own food as we can. Thanks for stopping by!
