TODAY- October Edition

I love to look at a day that seems like I can’t get it all done… challenge! Today was one of those days! A headache came bits at a time, off and on… but I was able to get lots accomplished before it became worse.

8:19 am I put some sourdough rolls on to rise, a double batch. We needed bread and I also use them for my Sweet Husband’s lunches.

8:28 am I made sure all of the laundry was out of the dryer from yesterday before we began school (half an hour later than usual). I knew I needed to fold the 3 loads I had washed yesterday.

9:27 am I put lunch into the crock pot. Creamy ranch chicken. We ate it on half a roll with kraut and some cheesy fall shaped pasta. I threw a teaspoonful of my Super Greens powder into the pot for good measure.

10:15 am The kids and I took the tomato cages we’d taken off the tomatoes last week and put them around our baby trees- 8 of them. This keeps the deer from demolishing them over the winter. We use zip ties and some iron rods to help hold them in the ground. We also covered the blueberry bushes to hopefully keep them safe as well.

10:53 am I cut some yarrow leaves that are still growing strong near the side door and hung it (laid some out) to dry. I am using this post to make some yarrow powder to add to our ‘medicine cabinet’.

12:25 pm One thing I had one my list today was canning! I had soaked pintos and Jacob’s Cattle beans overnight to prepare them for pressure canning. It takes 90 minutes to can quart jars of beans. While I ‘babysat’ my canner I… read aloud history with my two youngest; cleaned a bit; and watched some free online summit courses from the School of Traditional Skills.

3:32 pm We took snacks to the field today. BBQ chicken rolls with homemade cookies (my second son makes them) and juice. The kids got to ride in the tractor/grain cart and combine.

4:52 pm I let the boys shoot their BB guns at a target my brother made for them. They really enjoy it and do such a good job.

6:41 pm I pulled the last mustard out of the canner. Whew! Two batches- one of whole grain and one of yellow (made from powdered mustard). We had breakfast casserole for supper and listened to an audio theatre about the life of Martin Luther.

How was your day?

Please subscribe to my emails! I’d love to hear from you in the comments.

Welcome to
Honey and the Hen!

Currently I don’t have any bees (or honey). We do have meat chickens now – yay!
And we also recently purchased 20 laying pullets. I live with my Sweet Husband and 3 kids in Central Illinois. I love homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. We are thankful to be saved by grace in Jesus and seek to follow Him and His Word. I am originally from Tennessee and one of six children, using much of my upbringing in what I do and love now. I enjoy learning, growing, and keeping my home with enthusiasm as unto the Lord. We garden and hope to raise more of our own food as we can. Thanks for stopping by!
