Since my kids were tiny, we have frequented antique stores and second hand shops. I love thrifting. I also love antiquing. Early on I read an article that recommended children could touch one item in the store and before touching, they must tell Mama what it was. So, we adopted that rule and it’s worked beautifully. The stores we go to most often know my kids and that they are well behaved with the store’s merchandise.
I just wanted to share a few recent purchases I made at some local stops!

Adding to my collection of old, white little girls’ dresses, I found this cutie at Vintage Market in Paxton, IL. The owner runs a very nice shops with great prices and is often at local festivals and shows. I also found this yellow ware bowl. I don’t have any other bowls like this and it probably isn’t genuine yellow ware, but I liked it and the price was right!

In Tuscola, IL, the kids and I enjoyed shopping at Paddywagon Antiques right off hwy 36 on the west end of town. I picked up a few fun gift pieces as well as something for myself. The buttons were sweet and I like having many kinds on hand. But white is my favorite- I have a Mason jar lamp almost full of white buttons in our bedroom. My friend gifted me the lamp and I filled a jar with buttons! This wooden cutting board is old and, though I probably won’t use it for food, it makes a lovely outlet cover up. Another sweet doll sized white dress for my peg rack. And some sweet thread(not pictured) and white buttons to give to a friend- her colors! The tiny bottle is perfect for wee bouquets.

A few sweet stops in Arthur, IL found me some glass items. Another large canister for detergent, food, etc. The sugar and creamer may become maple syrup and powdered sugar regulars in the kitchen. The salt shaker and cup were 50 cents each so I couldn’t pass them up, whether as a vase, to hold my embroidery floss, or for a candle mold.

What do you like looking for? Any collections? I am to a place where I definitely don’t just need to bunch of things. But, as I pass things on and move thigs around, I do enjoy collecting some items that bring joy and beauty. Many things are useful and play a role in our home life. Others are just lovely!
I’d be tickled to hear where you find your second hand treasures!
