Prince Edward Island Part I- SCENERY

Last summer my Sweet Husband took me on a dream vacation for my 40th birthday. I have always wanted to go to PEI, Canada where L.M. Montgomery, author of the Anne of Green Gables books, is from. I have read many of her works repeatedly. Revisiting an LMM book is like chatting with a sweet friend.

I am going to do a 3 part series of our trip so that you can see the glory of the island in many ways: scenery, Anne stops, and lighthouses. I hope you will look forward to these posts as much as I have looked forward to writing them!

I was in love with this view. We stayed in what they call a cottage not far from Charlottestown and Cavendish. As we would drive over this hill, I stopped every time to enjoy this scrumptious look at hills and trees, dreaming my Anne dreams.

On our first day at the cottage, we drove around with not much agenda as of yet. We came upon this field of what I think was yellow mustard near New London and I had to stop, not only for a photo, but also for a piece of the mustard which I pressed into my scrapbook (thanks to my dear friend, T, for this adorable handmade scrapbook). And, yes, that’s the sea beyond the field.

In the evening, we made our way to the North Shore. Doesn’t that name just give you a thrill? This beach had lovely sand and also lots of pebbles and sandstone. The water was frigid, but we stuck our feet in anyway.

On our last day on PEI, I found this heart shaped rock for my brother.

These red cliffs just did me in. I couldn’t quit looking and never got enough of this breathtaking scene. Not far off the shore was one of hundreds of shipwrecks. This particular wreck can be seen under the water from above, but we could not make it out from our vantage point.

Near another lighthouse we came upon this field of daisies. You cannot make it out in the photo, but just beyond the flowers is a huge cliff and drop off.

The red sandy roads are a defining point of PEI. Some locals say that the island is just a large sandbar. Fun fact: as you are driving around, sometimes a road just becomes a sand road and the pavement stops. This road would not have been large enough for two cars to meet.

On our first day at the cottage we came upon this road and I quickly turned onto it, hoping to find Anne, but it ended in a field so we had to turn around. The road going off to the right led to a pond.

This path was near the North Shore. We took a trail around the MacNeil pond and came out here. That ahead is another drop off.

On our last day on PEI, we went to view a lighthouse and this cliff was near it. The water was actually fairly rough against the rocks, though you cannot tell that in the photo. It was very foggy and rainy.

Thank you for humoring me through this scenic photo tour of PEI. It really is a beautiful place to visit. I am so thankful we were able to go. Be on the lookout for Part II and Part III of our PEI trip!

So beautiful! One of your pictures looked almost like The Avenue. I wonder where that scene was filmed and at what time of year! ♡

Welcome to
Honey and the Hen!

Currently I don’t have any bees (or honey). We do have meat chickens now – yay!
And we also recently purchased 20 laying pullets. I live with my Sweet Husband and 3 kids in Central Illinois. I love homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. We are thankful to be saved by grace in Jesus and seek to follow Him and His Word. I am originally from Tennessee and one of six children, using much of my upbringing in what I do and love now. I enjoy learning, growing, and keeping my home with enthusiasm as unto the Lord. We garden and hope to raise more of our own food as we can. Thanks for stopping by!
