On Sunday afternoon, we sat out on the deck as it began to sprinkle. Since the rain only lasted a few minutes and the sun was back out, I decided I should water my garden. The day before had been rather hot for spring as well as windy. As I watered, I felt sprinkles again. Within minutes the rain was pouring. Our storm had not shown on the radar map, but had just popped up. My Sweet Husband keeps a close eye on the weather, especially during farming season.

Off and on for the next several hours we would received pouring rain, hail, and finally quiet. Then, it would repeat. We had at least three separate hail storms happen. I was very thankful to have finally gotten the last three meat chickens inside and locked up as a large hailstorm hit. And, it hurt! My Sweet Husband and I stood out on our deck with sound muffling ear muffs to video the storm for our family.

We received definite hail damage on crops as well as perennials, but thankfully no vehicles or building damage that we have seen.

I enjoyed walking around after the storm was finally over and documenting the levels of water. This is our yard near the coop.

And… our garden… the east end was almost completely submerged.

The chicken coop was surrounded by water, but is thankfully on blocks and off the ground.

Near our pond, the drainage ditch was close to flooding. This shows a huge metal tube we use as a bridge and it is almost underwater.

I was enjoying the reflections of the barn and grain bin. This water would have gone over my boots so I didn’t venture out far.

In the end our rain gauge registered at 4 inches in less than 3 hours. My Sweet Husband said it was likely more than 4” because the rain was at an angle so much of the time, blowing viciously.
I am thankful to say that this was a narrow storm and it didn’t affect a wide area on the map. My Sweet Husband and his dad were able to plant crops this week west of us. However, more rain is due this weekend. We know our great God and heavenly Father is still on the throne. We cannot control the weather- but He can and does. Thankfully He knows exactly what we need and when. And, He provides it.
Have you had any recent storms? How do your garden plants do after hail? Any feedback is helpful!
