APRIL- Challenge IV

APRIL- Challenge IV

There are 5 Mondays in April! Who knew? Let’s keep moving ahead…

CHALLENGE IV: plant something. Did you know that it was Earth Day?! It is! Some people could not care less for things like that. And I can understand! However, we are stewards of this beautiful Earth that God made. Taking care of it is not a bad thing- it can be as simple as being in charge of the space we occupy! And, lest I forget the importance of soil- something can be said for getting your hands into the ground… it is therapeutic and reminds us all over again of God’s many ways of blessing us.

Planting things can be daunting if you haven’t done much before. Here are some small ways to challenge yourself to PLANT:

  • a packet of flower seeds outside
  • some pansies or other flowers that like this cooler, spring weather (check your zone for specific ideas!)
  • some lettuce seeds in a window box
  • herbs on your patio (again, check your zone!)
  • IF you have a garden, it may be time for peas and potatoes, carrots and spinach
  • some small pots to give to neighbors

Other ways you can involve your kiddos for Earth Day could be: trash pick up on your road or at your favorite park; raking away dead leaves and brush from last year; trimming and pruning (look into seasons to prune specific varieties)… My 3 children enjoy an Earth Day tradition of walking our road with trash bags and gloves, picking up things people have dropped or thrown out. The more we get, that happier they seem to be.

So, what will you plant?

I’ve planted 50 bedding plants so far today! Tilled and dug, planted and “Preen”ed! (I may be getting ahead of myself! It’s early!) I prepped the vegetable garden too. I told my “sweet husband” it was my week to garden and he said “go!” I did write some cards last week too, so I’m tracking with part of your challenges. 👏🏻 Enjoying your blog!

Welcome to
Honey and the Hen!

Currently I don’t have any bees (or honey). We do have meat chickens now – yay!
And we also recently purchased 20 laying pullets. I live with my Sweet Husband and 3 kids in Central Illinois. I love homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. We are thankful to be saved by grace in Jesus and seek to follow Him and His Word. I am originally from Tennessee and one of six children, using much of my upbringing in what I do and love now. I enjoy learning, growing, and keeping my home with enthusiasm as unto the Lord. We garden and hope to raise more of our own food as we can. Thanks for stopping by!
