MESS AND BEAUTY

MESS AND BEAUTY

So daily life. Does it get you excited? When you think of ‘tomorrow’ is it, after all, another day? Or does it hold intrigue?

We can very easily forget that each day is a gift. There is a lot of mess, isn’t there? As I have mentioned in another post my kids have chores each day/week. And so do I. When I think of the day, or the one coming, I can often define it by what there is on the ‘to do’ list.

Laundry. Dishes. Sweeping. Baking.

Yet, those things can become beautiful, can’t they? I have clothes to wear… I’ll wash and mend them. I have food to eat… I’ll clean the dishes after the meal. And on it goes. We can go from mess to beauty with a change in our outlook.

I am one of those people who likes to photograph the lovely things in my home… and don’t take quite the same time to photograph the messes. But there are more messes most days than beauty!

However, here are both sides. The mess and the beauty. Who doesn’t love a clean kitchen? But isn’t it funny how often we get to the end of the day and can’t quite remember what all we’ve gotten accomplished?

The food we made gets eaten. The dishes we washed are dirty again. The laundry we folded is in a pile on my son’s bedroom floor. It is all good, though! Don’t let repetition drag you down. Those meals you’re making are nourishing your loved ones. Those clothes you’re washing are keeping them warm. That bathtub you cleaned may have an amazing amount of bubbles in it for bath night tomorrow.

I love gleaning tips from others. One I have kept in my back pocket is to set a timer when I’m running low of time. How much laundry can I fold these ten minutes before we leave for piano practice? How many rooms can I vacuum before it’s time to make supper? And my favorite: setting it and telling my kids ‘when the timer goes off, then we can play the game you picked out!’

Do your kids help with chores? I love feedback on this, as we all can use a boost and encouragement in including our children with housework. It is good! We share this space. We rest and work alongside each other. So much can be gleaned from chores. And as their parents, we take the lead.

I wonder if I show my kids that work is good by my attitude towards it? Work was created before sin entered the world. Think of that! A good God gave us work! We are blessed to have it. What chores are you finding joy in today?

Dusty is my niece; her husband is my brother’s oldest son. I grew up on the farm where they live. Chores were very important in helping around the house, yard, farm, community, etc. My kids, now grown, did chores around our house here in Tucson. They asked about getting an allowance, like some of their friends; money for good grades! HA! This is their home, as well as their dad’s and mine and we all take care of it together. And, good grades, that is their responsibility with our help if needed. I was blessed with wonderful parents, grandparents and others. Thank you Dusty for taking care of the family homestead my grandparents started in 1924! Five generations and going strong!

Welcome to
Honey and the Hen!

Currently I don’t have any bees (or honey). We do have meat chickens now – yay!
And we also recently purchased 20 laying pullets. I live with my Sweet Husband and 3 kids in Central Illinois. I love homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. We are thankful to be saved by grace in Jesus and seek to follow Him and His Word. I am originally from Tennessee and one of six children, using much of my upbringing in what I do and love now. I enjoy learning, growing, and keeping my home with enthusiasm as unto the Lord. We garden and hope to raise more of our own food as we can. Thanks for stopping by!
