Holiday Book Basket

Holiday Book Basket

Is it snowing at your house? We are one week away from Christmas Eve with snow on the ground and rain coming. But that’s ok with me. It is still cozy.

This is just a quick book project idea for you and your household. When I think of the word ‘home’ I automatically see books somewhere in the picture my mind paints. Books are one thing I can rarely leave on the shelf at secondhand stores. Someone may need this copy… yes, I have it already… Anyone else guilty?

But soon our shelves overflow. So, in our house, we implemented holiday book baskets. In a metal cabinet in our basement sit the holiday books for the year. Each holiday has its’ own stack. When one holiday or season passes, those books head downstairs and the next set comes up. This keeps things fresh and our shelves are happier.

Here is a short list of some stacks you may want to set aside and include in your holiday book baskets throughout each year:

  • Winter- anything that isn’t Christmas (etc) oriented
  • Valentine’s Day
  • Spring (including St. Patrick’s Day, gardens, planting…)
  • Mother’s Day
  • Summer (including Independence Day, picnics, swimming, and hot weather)
  • Back to School
  • Fall (think the apple picking books)
  • Halloween (or Reformation Day)
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas

So, there you go. A simple project that shouldn’t take too long, but may be enjoyable one of these cold, winter days. And, as you go through your books, make a pile of donations as well- either for the secondhand store or those cute library boxes around town.

Hope you find some long lost books! I also like keeping my eyes open at second hand shops for holiday books we don’t have.

Well, I just had a blast rifling through our bookshelves. “I know I have a few books that are about Christmas,” I thought. After gathering a crate full, I stopped looking! That was so fun to find reminders of many years ago. Great idea to add a box (or basket) of the pages of Christmas past to your holidays! Anyone want to read “Claude the Dog, a Christmas Story” or “The Birds’ Christmas Carol” (one of my personal favorites)? I’ve got them handy!

Welcome to
Honey and the Hen!

Currently I don’t have any bees (or honey). We do have meat chickens now – yay!
And we also recently purchased 20 laying pullets. I live with my Sweet Husband and 3 kids in Central Illinois. I love homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. We are thankful to be saved by grace in Jesus and seek to follow Him and His Word. I am originally from Tennessee and one of six children, using much of my upbringing in what I do and love now. I enjoy learning, growing, and keeping my home with enthusiasm as unto the Lord. We garden and hope to raise more of our own food as we can. Thanks for stopping by!
