Daily: JUNE

This month’s ‘day in the life’ will look a bit different. I’m going to show you a typical Sunday for our family.

7:30 am- leave home and head north one hour to church. We attend a reformed Presbyterian church- the congregation was originally established in 1862. Sweet Husband is a deacon and so he and my sons alongside the other two deacons greet at the door and hand out bulletins.

I help with fellowship snacks and so I start the coffee and hot water for tea, lay out snacks, and have things prepared for whomever will serve that particular Sunday. So, between worship service and Sunday School (SS) we generally have some sort of muffin and a salty treat as well.

9:00-our worship service begins! I love seeing how our ‘Order of Worship’ as laid out in the bulletin undergirds what we are taught each week- preaching matching SS and so on. There are many parts to a worship service, not the least of which is singing.

11:30- this second Sunday in June, after our one hour SS(10:30-11:30), have our monthly fellowship dinner! The tables are always set prettily and many delicious dishes are brought to share. This day I chatted with a lady about everything from meals to family heritage! What did I bring for the dinner you ask? A crock pot of homemade baked beans and a Tollhouse cookie pie. Mm!

3:00- after chatting with my parents for a short bit, we drive back home for some rest and play. Sometimes it’s ball with the puppy; sometimes a nap; and sometimes just reading or playing. Summer means warm days and much outside time.

5:30- most Sundays I don’t make a big supper. Sweet Husband is the best popcorn popper (we use a Whirlie Pop!) and often makes popcorn as a snack or part of supper. This day we had some snacky things (cheese and crackers, fruit, etc) and leftovers.

Sunday is the Lord’s Day for those of us who follow Christ, and I can see weekly how important this day of rest and worship is! God gave it to us purposefully and it is truly a blessed day each week. Worshiping with our local church community is a sweet time- yes we are all sinners! But, didn’t Christ die for His beloved Bride, the church? What a wonderful blessing we have in loving and serving each week in our own churches.

Welcome to
Honey and the Hen!

Currently I don’t have any bees (or honey). We do have meat chickens now – yay!
And we also recently purchased 20 laying pullets. I live with my Sweet Husband and 3 kids in Central Illinois. I love homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. We are thankful to be saved by grace in Jesus and seek to follow Him and His Word. I am originally from Tennessee and one of six children, using much of my upbringing in what I do and love now. I enjoy learning, growing, and keeping my home with enthusiasm as unto the Lord. We garden and hope to raise more of our own food as we can. Thanks for stopping by!
