HANDMADE- ornaments

Every Christmas it is a treat to get out our tree ornaments and see handmade items of years’ past. Some have names on them, some just have the year. But we try to label them so we never forget who made what. Here is a small collection of handmade ornament ideas for you and yours!

All this one takes is yarn and a bit of cardboard cut into the letter you prefer! Then… just start wrapping! You can do the same with star shapes for a Christmas feel.

These felt stars are a favorite of mine to find in our Christmas box each year. I actually made these years before I was even married. I used a cookie cutter and traced onto felt (two pieces per ornament for double thickness) and did a simple blanket stitch around the edges.

This is a version of the good ole popsicle stick sled. I was forgetting the runners so it looks more like a fence! But, my kids enjoyed the process and it’s a memory made! All ya need is paint, popsicle sticks, hot glue, and glitter! Be sure to write your child’s’ name on the back.

I made this one for our tree last year. Blue and white anyone? This one is an old wooden thread spool covered in ribbon. There is a jingle bell at the bottom, threaded through the spool. And on top are some blue buttons, also threaded. I added the year on a small piece of cardstock.

Simple dried oranges are so pretty! Hot glue twine to the back and add a ribbon. Easy peasy!

This candy cane is made from salt dough. Part we kept white and part we dyed green (or red!). Mold, bake, and let cool. Again, use an extra fine Sharpie marker to mark names and year!

And finally, large popsicle stick snowmen (or make them gingerbread men, Santa, etc!). First, draw a face! We used Mod Podge to glue the glitter on. Next, add buttons and loop with hot glue. Voila! Adorable, handmade ornaments.

What ornaments are your favorites? Handmade? Store bought? Gifted?

We only have non-shatter (from Michaels) and wooden ornaments this year — since we have a 2-year-old 😮 — but the salt dough ornaments your boys made us are always some of my favorites. ❤️

Welcome to
Honey and the Hen!

Currently I don’t have any bees (or honey). We do have meat chickens now – yay!
And we also recently purchased 20 laying pullets. I live with my Sweet Husband and 3 kids in Central Illinois. I love homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. We are thankful to be saved by grace in Jesus and seek to follow Him and His Word. I am originally from Tennessee and one of six children, using much of my upbringing in what I do and love now. I enjoy learning, growing, and keeping my home with enthusiasm as unto the Lord. We garden and hope to raise more of our own food as we can. Thanks for stopping by!
